Forming and Non-forming Films
To boost consumer sales, packaging often must show off the product to capture the consumer’s eye. Food products can be offered to the view in clear packaging so as to display their virtues from many angles. The shape of the package can also hold the product in a desired arrangement.
Danafilms provides forming and non-forming films that seal together to complete a package. Barrier, rigidity, seal strength and coefficient of friction all must be balanced to fit the customer’s needs.
Forming webs (sheets of forming film) are generally made of any combination of these materials:
- NYLON or POLYPROPYLENE provides formability and strength
- EVOH provides excellent oxygen barrier (only used in coextrusion)
- EVA provides low-temp sealability and excellent tray adhesion
- POLYETHYLENE (PE) provides bulk and sealability
- SURLYN or METALLOCENE provides excellent product formability and sealability through minor oils and fats
To form a semi-rigid package, PVC, Polyester or Polypropylene could be used instead of nylon.
The forming web is thermoformed using heat, vacuum and/or pressure to shape it over a mold. The product goes into the formed web and the non-forming film gets sealed over.
