Danafilms Produces Innovative Blown Film
August 19, 2010

From barrier to beautiful graphics, or convenience to durability, today’s most innovative packaging may require less of the materials from which it is made – if they are engineered to meet specific property demands while also considering source reduction. Monolayer and multiple-layer coextruded films made by Danafilms allow packaging converters to satisfy all of these packaging demands while meeting all your cost, performance and sustainability requirements.
Downguage for Material SavingsIn the monolayer sector, Danafilms offers 6081, a 100% metallocene linear low density polyethylene (LLDPE) film targeted at high-strength applications requiring excellent seal properties. The 6081 film grade uses a tougher resin than comparable films, which allows users to realize higher tensile strengths at thinner gauges. In fact, the film allows users to downgauge—or reduce the film’s thickness—by as much as one third while realizing the same strength as compared to previously thicker gauges. The film, ideal for use as a lamination sealant or general purpose packaging, also features high dart impact, or durability against puncture resistance to keep your packaged product well-protected through its end use.
Five-Layer MasterpieceIn the coextruded film arena, one of Danafilms’ most popular offerings, RESILISEAL™ (previously known as X5613), uses a nylon coextrusion with a layer of linear low density polyethyelene (LLDPE) and a metallocene polyethylene sealant layer to excel in an array of applications. The 5-layer film’s unique combination of resins helps users achieve excellent strength, toughness and sealability, ensuring the packaged product will not leak, break or suffer any damage from time the package is filled through its time on a store shelf. This film grade may also include—at your request—a UV inhibitor to prevent deterioration in sunlight, making this product an excellent choice for lawn and garden or industrial packaging as well as large, standalone packaging structures for the food packaging segment. Available as a white opaque film, Resiliseal™ also works well in surface-printed packaging or in security/military applications where a user may need to conceal a package’s contents.
The Ultimate Vacuum-Packed Coffee SolutionAnother coextruded film, X5634, combines nylon and a low density polyethylene sealant to improve on an existing film structure used in the vacuum-packed coffee segment. By incorporating a nylon layer directly in the film, users can eliminate a lamination process and laminate to plain PET—a cost and time savings that adds up quickly over time. X5634 also offers excellent shelf appearance/clarity as well as good sealability and barrier properties for product integrity.
Of course, these three films are but a few examples of the virtually infinite number of monolayer and coextruded films available from Danafilms. With more than 40 years in The Art of Blown Film, our film engineers stand ready to tailor a film up to 7 layers to meet or exceed the performance, appearance or cost-saving demands of any application.
