Danafilms Expands Its Coextrusion Capacity and Facility in Franklin, KY

[Westborough, MA March 11, 2010] Danafilms, Inc. announces a 50,000 square foot expansion of its Franklin, KY facility, making room for a new co-extrusion line and accommodating future growth. The new Windmoeller & Hoelscher 7-Layer Blown Coextrusion film line will increase the company’s coextrusion capacity and provide more scheduling flexibility. Danafilms is investing $7 million in the expansion and plans to start up the new line before the end of the year.

Adding to the prestige of the event, Danafilms’ new line will be on display in operation at the world’s largest trade show for plastics and rubber, the 2010 K Show in Düsseldorf, Germany October 27th to November 3rd. “We are really pleased to have our name in front of this international audience on this state-of-the-art coextrusion line,” said Aaron LaPointe, Danafilms’ Coextrusion Technical Manager.

“Adding this equipment is about redundancy,” LaPointe said. “This really allows us to cut the lead times for coextruded products. We do a great deal of custom work, tweaking the properties of the films. With a seven layer coextrusion, we can provide very precise properties in the most cost-effective configuration possible and get the finished work to the customer much faster. This Windmoeller & Hoelscher line is a fantastic piece of equipment, and the new one has all the latest bells and whistles.”

The plant expansion is being built by the award-winning Gray Construction of Lexington, KY. “Gray Construction built the original Franklin plant,” said Steve Crimmin, Sales Manager at Danafilms. “We’ve been delighted with their work, and we were happy to turn the contract for the expansion over to them, as well. We are making room not only for this new coextrusion line but for enhanced material handling and future expansion down the line. This new line gives us 7.5 to 8 million pounds of new capacity. Our goal is to constantly improve the customer’s efficiencies and throughput,” said Crimmin. “This will be Danafilms’ 20th line. It gives us the opportunity to bring more value to our customer.”

First established in Marlborough, MA, in 1970, today Danafilms serves a number of diverse applications, including lawn and garden, pet food and supplies, food packaging, electronic packaging and industrial products such as films, tapes and release liners.
